About

ELIZABETH DEVAUGHN, LPC-MHSP (she/her/hers)

Hi! I’m Liz.

Weird, spooky cat lady. A witchy psychotherapist who’s sarcastic and pissed off 60% of the time (but 100% of the time filled with awe, wonder & love; talks to the grass and cries when she sees a leaf fall). Recovering good girl, perfectionist, and ruminator. Gryffindor/Ravenclaw who makes a case for Slytherin. Intersectional vegan. Lifelong learning = how to have adult friends.

Interabled & ecstatically partnered with my artistic, hilarious husband of 13 years. Striving daily & imperfectly to decolonize. Obsession: investigating the root cause of oppression-based relationships.

*More about my story coming soon. See below for credentials, trainings, & approach ❤️‍🔥

WHAT I HELP WITH

Healing from Domestic Violence

Currently surviving abuse must be treated much differently than outside of abuse. I would love to support you.

Family Relationships & Boundaries

From setting (and keeping) new boundaries, to forging new family relationships, I got you… I am you.

Healing Complex Trauma

It’s all in the nervous system. With gentle methods that work with your body instead of against it, we can do this.

Spirituality, Religion, & Witchiness

From spiritual abuse, to finding your autonomous place within your religion, to, “am I a Witch?”, I would love to help.

Developing New Relationship Patterns

New relationship patterns = “showing” the nervous system that it’s safe to have something it never had. Let’s do this.

Ready for Root Cause Healing

Talk therapy helped, and it got you here. But you’re done messing around. Time for the root cause in the body, now.

What I stand for

I’m a white-bodied human animal & psychotherapist on a mission to help heal the root cause of oppression-based relationship patterns, such as from the effects of domestic violence. To heal these patterns at the deepest root level, I believe this also means standing for collective liberation for all humxns, animals, and the Earth.

To be congruent with this personal and professional goal, I make every, ever-evolving effort in my business and brand to be anti-genocide, anti-ableist, anti-racist, anti-anthropocentric, and gender-affirming. I strive to be a welcome, safe, and inclusive space for all genders, gender identities, bodies, bodies of culture, ability levels, sexual orientations, and religious beliefs. Everything used within my brand is vegan and cruelty-free.

For myself, I make continual efforts to examine and heal internal imprints and conditionings of white supremacy, including complicity and collusion with a system that has kept Black, Brown, Indigenous, LGBTQIA+, and bodies with disabilities down.

APPROACH

From 1:1 sessions to retreats, book clubs, witch parades & beyond, here are the pillars of my approach to healing the deepest root cause of oppressive-based relationship patterns…for GOOD.

  • Within any of our containers that specifically include a therapeutic component (1:1 psychotherapy, coaching, or therapeutic programs), I use approaches that:

    • are based in the root cause (body, nervous system, systemic issues) rather than symptoms only

    • are non-pathologizing

    • address our innate connection with nature,

    • are rooted in collective liberation & anti-oppression

    Examples of modalities include:

    • Somatic Experiencing®

    • Parts Work

    • Attachment & attunement based methods

    • Nature-based methods

    • Working with Archetypes to help us access exiled parts of ourselves

    • Invitations to bring in our cultural spiritual and magical practices

  • A traditional, Western psychotherapy model has roots in capitalist white supremacy, which can be felt in a very pathologizing model of “healing.” It’s very “good/bad,” “right/wrong,” with “right” being a model of health centered in whiteness and privilege.

A model of healing centered in collective liberation looks not only at internal factors (the nervous system, emotions, inner parts, etc.), but it greatly factors in the systems we are a part of (political, cultural, oppressive, etc.).

Plainly, if we are only looking at internal factors that may have led to “anxiety” without also looking at the traumatizing impact of an oppressive political system, especially for marginalized folx, that’s a problem.

To stay aligned with a liberation-centered model of healing, I do my absolute best to keep checking in with my own biases rooted in privilege. I do this mostly through trainings, supervision, and regular peer consultations.

  • Finding my unique, sovereign connection with spirituality — after healing from religious and spiritual trauma — has been a major factor in my healing.

Please know that spirituality does NOT have to come into play with any healing practice we do. And also know that you are 100% welcome to bring any type of religious, spiritual, ancestral, or cultural practice that’s important to you, or that you’d like to explore.

Trauma not only disrupts our connection with ourselves and with each other, but also from a sense of spirit, connection with nature, with oneness, or however you like to think of it. Rebuilding this connection in a way that’s authentic to you can bring lots of healing and life force energy to a trauma healing path.

I myself don’t identify with a particular religion, though I do draw from my Celtic roots with Celtic Paganism and Druidry (very nature-based… I talk to the grass, to the animals, and to my Guides, particularly The Morrigan 🐦‍⬛🗡️)

  • We are mammals, which means we are social; we are not meant to heal on an island.

Some of the most healing mechanisms on Earth are simply circling together, rhythming together, and seeing + being seen. That’s it.

Trauma has a way of propelling us toward isolation, which makes everything worse. By growing our capacity to connect, be in togetherness, and find our own unique boundaries that promote intimacy, we tap into the most innate healing available.

Since trauma is relational, and our core mission is helping you heal relationship patterns, all of our programs have elements of connection with others, with self, with nature, and with the All.

Why I specialize in relationships

Having grown up anxious and not knowing what deep-rooted safety felt like in relationships, adult relationships didn’t come easy. I envied my co-workers who effortlessly went to lunch together and wondered if anyone else was missing the I-know-how-to-have-relationships-gene.

Now, pinching myself re: the safe, unconditional, steadfast connections surrounding me, where hard conversations and risky vulnerability actually lead to more safety and intimacy, I’m more energized than ever to help people experience the same. Let’s chat.
